Lesson 1 of 10:
Lesson 1: Why Does History Matter? The Beginning of the Civilized World

History is the study of everything humankind has done since its creation. However, many question why any should care about what old fossils have done in the past. Here is the answer: because History Repeats itself. Many believe history to go in a cycle—many people make the same mistakes that people in the past have. Therefore, we have to learn from these mistakes, and not thorugh trial and error—sometimes, one mistake is going to end in a permanent error. So let us begin.

History is judged in several Era: The Ancient Era, the Samurai Era, and the Shinobi Era. The Ancient Era pertains to the time before even the Samurai, and is the time we start out form. The Samurai Era dates through the feudal age and the Ming Dynasty. The Shinobi Era is the time we live in. Due to its length, the Shinobi Era has been separated into two ages: the Primordial Shinobi age and the Modern Shinobi age. The primordial shinobi age describes the time up to the great shinobi war, where things finally evened out. Anything after is the Modern Shinobi age, after the shinobi adopted their own code and honor system.

[b]Homework (PM THIS TO JAN HAKURA WHEN YOU ARE DONE. LABEL THE SUBJECT AS "History HW #1)):

1: Describe one instance in the Naruto world of History repeating itself.
2: Explain why adopting a code and law changes shinobi from Primordial to Modern.
3: The Samurai Era is somewhat shorter htan the Shinobi Era. Why do you think this happened?
4: In the Naruto and Bleach world, describe one mistake that changed the whole course of history.

Lesson 2 of 10
Lesson 2: Ancient Age and events leading to the Samurai Age

The Ancient Era has been extremely unclear, due to the fact that writing only started late in the Era. However, many believe that history began with a group of hunter-gatherers who roamed in search of food for their children. This was a very primitive existence that lasted thousands of years. About 6,000 years ago, this switched to a stationary farmer’s society. Farms banded together and traded with others, occasionally taking the time to bop each other on the head and take their grain. These soon became small villages—and this was when chakra users appeared.

It is unknown what allows manipulators of chakra to do so. Many believe this is Genetic, the result of a mutation or a recessive trait, since the descendants of most shinobi are also chakra-capable. However, it is an ability that allows owners to manipulate the energy in their bodies for what most humans are incapable of doing. In any case, though, these gifted few were entwined with a love-hate relationship with commoners. For some villages, they were holy men—purveyors of good who could protect villages and help it prosper. To some, these were monster—mutated humans or demons in human form. However, there wre both good and evil chakra users. And slowly, as time passed, these developed into two different forms. The holy men and medicine men became the Samurai, fiercely honorable and protective of their people and leaders. The shunned chakra users became people of the shadow—ninja, or shinobi, desperate men and women who would kill for money and slowly advanced their gifts. These two sides, Yin and Yang, would eventually clash. However, for now, Peace remained.

Homework

1: Why would farming be an advantage over hunting-gathering?
2: How do the Shinobi and Samurai reflect their own backgrounds?
3: We all know the Shinobi won eventually—but why?
4: Write a small paragraph summing up the opinions of people who supported chakra users ,and write another for those who shunned and feared the chakra users.

Lesson 3 of 10
Lesson 2: Dawn of the Feudal Age

Although the shinobi were hated and samurai loved, both were put into good use at the dawn of the feudal era. As time went by, it became obvious that the larger groups would win wars—and soon whole villages banded together to form Feudal territories. Led by Daimyo, landlords who became heads of their provinces, hundreds of tiny countries appeared. Each country on average had three armies—their regular, expendable volunteer Militias, and a few samurai and shinobi. Samurai and Shinobi adapted their abilities to use. Samurai trained for healing and warfare with abilities that raised their fighting skills and increased the power of group combat. Shinobi evolved to use techniques of the shadows—the ability to meld into shadows, to become what is not, to kill without a sound. They were two sides of the same coin—the heroic Samurai, honorable and kind to the people, and the shinobi, the (mostly despised) warriors of the shadows, who killed from the back, and most viewed the two like how many view King Ricahrd and Robin Hood—the honorable and open warrior of justice and the secret guerilla who murdered, but for a good cause. Some feudal states specialized in Samurai, some Ninja. However, strategy was still the linchpin, as proved when a small, little-known feudal lord called Sun Yang Ling, of the Northern nation of Shan Guo, swept south, actually succeeding in uniting all three continents under the flag of “Ming”, the Bright nation. Form his roost in Tianjing, now-emperor Ling based his country in two areas—The city of the Sun, based in the Southwestern forests, and the city of the moon, based in what is now the country of Snow. And so peace remained for 43 generations of the emperors. However, by the time of 41st Emperor Komui Kazahana, the country had fallen into disrepair, and by the 43rd Empress, Queen Aoko Kazahana, civil war broke out. The feudal lords formed large leagues across continents, and what was left of the Royal Family hid themselves in the city of the moon. Once again, feudal lords ruled.

Homework
1. Why is strategy important?
2. how would the many differing climates adversely affect the governing of the empire of Shan Guo?
3. How would feudal countries with a majority of Samurai and a minority of Shinobi have an advantage?
4. How would feudal countries with a majority of Shinobi and a minority of Samurai have an advantage?

Lesson 4 of 10
Lesson 4: The Shinobi-Samurai Civil War and its Results

As soon as something is destroyed, it leaves a political vacuum that must be filled. For hundreds of years, feudal lords and their troops sought to fill this gap—but slowly, both sides drifted to two sides. One side was dominated by samurai, while the other by Shinobi. The thing is, the shinobi and Samurai are two sides of a coin. However, one side is always down—and it happened. Nobody is sure what started the war, but instantly, Shinobi and Samurai began a long, hundred-year war. Samurai Clans such as the Kaguya and Hyuuga (a branch of the royal house) fought with primarily Ninja clans such as the Uchiha and Nara. However, the Samurai began to turn the tide in their favor. Many preferred the honor of the Samurai over the loose code of the shinobi, and Samurai had better strategies, despite being far fewer in number. However, until then the shinobi had been fighting according to a code. Now they threw it all to hell, and the shinobi began to win. When not in Open war, the filial samurai, who would actually announce their presence to an enemy who did not know they were there, began to lose. Samurai jutsu were based on group combat and healing—but samurai were being picked off. The city of the sun became the village of eternal light (in Kon’s site, the ruins are what is left), while the city of the moon formed into the country of snow. When a man and his two sons managed to form the village of Leaf by defeating both the Uchiah and Hyuuga, that began to finish the samurai, who retreated on every front. Many were annihilated as they retreated, and there were atrocities on both sides. When the smoke cleared, though, there were no more samurai countries save for a few small nations. The age of shinobi had begun.

1. Explain how the Hyuuga would be a good samurai clan.
2. How are the Nara well-suited to shinobi warfare?
3. Explain all the thing sthat led to the destruction of the Samurai
4. In your opinion, do you think that the shinobi are better off now with their own honor code, or do you think they would do better without them?

Lesson 5 of 10
Lesson 5: The Development of Bloodlines

The human race never stops in the process of evolution, constantly changing to become more suited to survival then others. This gave birth to many of the ninja clans now. The Hyuuga are a prime example. Having been born as defenders of the people, the Hyuuga were the “secret police” of the royal family, trained to detect shinobi and assassins with their eyes. Soon, these gifts developed into a natural ability, that of the white eyes, Byukagan. By focusing chakra into the eyes, users were capable of seeing through walls and see opponents merely through body heat. This allowed the Hyuuga to defend themselves against the Uchiha, even when the Uchiha were shinobi and Hyuuga warriors. Hyuuga could activate remote weapons accurately or see attacks from afar with their Jutsu.

Anotehr prime example are the Uchiha. Trained to fight other shinobi, they grew accustomed to keeping up with the movements of others, sot that they could accelerate their mind processes to see things in slow-motion. This developed into the sharingan, the copy wheel that can copy even Jtusu. Experienced users could even put enemies into Genjutsu (the art of illusions, something the Samurai never leanred to defend against) in a instant and plunge others into false realities (tsukiyomi).

The warlike Kaguyas are a lst example. Trained to fight, these mercenary samurai were trained to strengthen their bones and to fihgt with their body. Their strengthening and use of chakra in its manipulation soon allowed them to accelerate cell processes in the marrow and create new bones in seconds. Their whole bodies soon allowed them to heal in seconds.

1. Hyuuga senses are based on the ability to sense heat and chakra activity. How can this be counteracted?
2. In later shinobi society, the Uchiha were perfect for the founding of the Military Police of Konoha. Why?
3. Who do you believe would win—a Hyuuga or Uchiha, with the same weapons, abilities and attributes? Why?
4. Why would a samurai not use Genjtusu?
